Houston Rockets training camp update 9/28/16

The Houston Rockets started training camp a couple days ago and its become obvious that they are a new changed team, most of the players like Patrick Beverly came into camp a lot lighter, faster, and stronger. The Rockets 2015 first round pick Sam Dekker is improving his shot as he hopes to contribute in the rotation unlike last year where he was out most of the year with a back injury.

Over the off-season Rockets star shooting guard James Harden also toke time to re-evaluate himself and leadership towards the team. Last off-season Harden came off of a MVP year and got involved with Khloe Kardashian bringing a lot of unneeded distractions and attention. Kevin McHale stated on TNT that harden came into training camp overweight and injured his ankle back tracking his progress of getting in shape. At the start of last season it was obvious to Rockets fans (including myself) that harden was off, he wasn't making his shots as consistently as his previous MVP year.

Harden admitted that last year the Rockets weren't always on the same page during most games but this year Harden is optimistic that the Rockets will be a better team and have the same mindset as each other. "It's not even close," Harden said of the mentality heading into camp compared to last season. "We've doing something I haven't since I've been here in Houston. Just trying to shake things up, just trying to make sure we really know each other in and out on and off the court. I think that will translate to a better team." Harden is also optimistic that newly acquired players like Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson, and Nene will complement the teams mindset and play. "On any team, in any sport, if you don't have the entire team on one page, the entire team having one goal, you're not going to be successful," he said. "That's what we're trying to build here in Houston. We have several new guys we want them to come and feel like this is a great group and we're going to build this together."
