For the first time since 1997 the Oklahoma State Cowboys win in Stillwater against the Texas Longhorns 49-31! The game stated with the Cowboys going up 14-0 early in the first, but it didn't take long for the Longhorns to respond as they score 2 unanswered TDs, but to tie the game the PAT got blocked and returned by Oklahoma States Tre Flowers to build on the lead 16-13. The Longhorns strike again with a 12 yard run from Tyrone Swoopes to take the lead but again the PAT is blocked , so the Longhorns only have a 19-16 lead. Swoopes touchdown is quickly intimidated by Cowboys QB Mason Rudolph who gives Oklahoma State the lead back 23-19. Texas wasn't done yet because QB Shane Buechele connected with TE Andrew Beck for a 39 yard TD. The Longhorns again lined up for the extra point thinking "3rd times a charm" but sadly not today as the PAT got blocked again only giving the longhorns a 25-23 lead. Mason Rudolph attacks Texas's DBs to find Jalen McCleskey for a 36 yard TD giving the Cowboys a lead of 30-25. Texas has a nice little drive going but it quickly stalls and forces the Longhrons to kick a 46 yard FG. Every Longhorn fan in the world was holding their breath after the 3 blocked PATs praying it goes in but of course when it rains it poors and just like that Trent Domingue was wide left keeping the score 30-25. The Longhrons DBs struggle to stop Rudolph as he connects with McCleskey again before the half to give the Cowboys a 37-25 lead over the Longhorns. After a high scoring first half both teams slow it down but Oklahoma State strikes first in the 3rd quarter with a 1 yard TD run from Barry Sanders giving the Cowboys a 45-23 lead after the PAT got blocked. D'Onta Foreman must've been angry because he quickly responds with a 62 yard TD run. The Longhorns were done with Trent Domingue so they went for 2 but failed that too, cutting the Oklahoma Sate lead to 12. In the fourth the Cowboys decided Texas needed to see how to make a FG so they kicked 2 and made 2 giving us our final score, 49-31 Oklahoma State!
With the red river rivalry next week Texas as a lot of things to figure out. One of those things is how to tackle. The longhorns couldn't get a tackle to save their life early in the game they kinda picked it up later on but those points they gave up early is what lost the Horns the game. Another thing Texas needs to fix is the defensive back problem, receivers
were being left wide open giving them big gains especially on 3rd down. The Longhorns D could not find a way to get off the field on 3rd down early on as the Cowboys started 4-4. The last thing Texas needs to fix is blocking on extra points. 3 blocked PATs is unacceptable and caused Trent to miss a 46 yard one because he was scared it was going to be blocked again. Oklahoma State scored more on Texas extra points than the Longhorns did. After giving up 49 many people are saying defensive coordinator Vance Bedford needs to go and I agree 47, 50, and 49 is not good at all and to be a Longhorn not even good is good enough and Vance isn't living up to that. I think it's time for Strong to move on from Vance and start a new chapter with someone new.
